Delivering Meals on Wheels: Supporting Seniors for a better life

When I started delivering for Meals on Wheels in our local community, I had no idea how far it would grow. It was simple enough at first. Show up on Wednesdays, deliver meals, check in, and make lasting connections with some community members that need it most.

Then we saw an opportunity and a way to fill a gap by providing hot Thanksgiving meals for the same community. And it grew from there.

But this isn't about us. We want to share a bigger message with you. Meals on Wheels needs your help! There is a reason we saw a gap - they are spread very thin!

Between resources and helping hands, it's up to us to keep them going.

Our Meals on Wheels program is a holistic nutrition program that provides home delivered prepared meals for seniors and adults living with disabilities throughout the Greater Austin area. Each recipient receives one meal per day during the week and may have an option of receiving supplemental frozen meals for the weekend. Our staff nutritionists carefully plan our meals to ensure they meet the nutritional needs of those we serve. Learn more about our meals and see our monthly meal menu.

Once enrolled in the Meals on Wheels program, case management services are provided to holistically assess each client’s needs, not only in terms of nutrition and meal eligibility, but to determine whether the client may require additional support.
